Toss Out These 10 Things In 2015

Out with the old, in with the new! It’s time to clean house for the New Year.

It’s a new year! What better way to start fresh than to do some “spring cleaning” before the Spring. New Year resolutions have been made and along with tossing out bad habits, and unhealthy foods, here is a list of the 10 things to let go of in 2015:

  1. Old Makeup and other unused beauty products. It’s time to be brave and open up that beauty cabinet. Now is the time to rid yourself of old makeup, nail polishes, perfumes, and hair products. Some companies will allow you to turn in old products for new ones. Talk about a New Year upgrade!
  1. Expired medicine and vitamins. You will probably be surprised at how many prescriptions have expired. After checking the correct disposal procedure, expose of your medicines and vitamins in the appropriate way. One helpful tip the FDA provides is to mix the medicine with used coffee grounds or with kitty litter in a sealable bag before throwing away. Better than flushing it which then puts it into our water supply.
  1. Food. Go through the fridge, the freezer, and the pantry. It’s time to toss out the old, uneaten, and the unhealthy. If it is a canned food, and not yet expired, donate it to a local shelter where it will be appreciated.
  1. Clothes. If it wasn’t worn in 2014, it probably won’t be worn in 2015; put it in the garage sale pile, or better yet, donate it. If you are looking for a little extra cash, check out your local second-hand and thrift stores. Clothes can often be sold there. Remember, even though it can be hard to let go of that sweater with the tag on it that’ll be perfect for a ‘special occasion’, creating room in your closet will allow you to shop for a new wardrobe!
  1. Magazines you have already read. The celebrity gossip is already yesterday’s news, and the fashion trends are so last season. Don’t let it take up your shelf space and collect dust. Buy a plant or some inspiring art to decorate the newly cleaned coffee table space.
  1. Books. Unless it is a classic, or your absolute favorite novel, it’s time to donate it. It is doubtful that you will read your old college textbooks or another romance series a second time. Selling them on Amazon or Ebay is another good alternative to earning a little extra cash.
  1. Notebooks and unused office supplies. If you haven’t used it in the last year, it is unlikely that you will ever use it again. Be ruthless. Toss out those extra staplers and recycle the notebook papers you won’t be writing on, or bring them into the office for extra supplies.
  1. Unused electronics. With technology advancing so quickly, it seems like electronics go out of date instantly. If you don’t see yourself using it, dispose of it properly or sell it on Amazon or Ebay, if it is still working properly.
  1. Garage clutter. Though it may seem scary, going through those boxes in the garage will rid you of many items that were once important, but aren’t anymore. The exercise bike you never use, and the stuffed animals that you could never let go can be sold and donated to provide you with a cleaner space free of clutter.
  1. Memorabilia. The T-shirt from that one concert you went to as a teenager will not be worn again. If you don’t want to make it into a quilt, it’s time to let it go. The same idea goes for baseball caps, bobble heads, Pokémon cards, and any other memorabilia that just don’t benefit your lifestyle anymore.

It’s a New Year, and time for a fresh start. After clearing out all of the unnecessary items lurking in your home, you will feel refreshed and ready to take on the New Year, clutter free.

What will you be tossing out in 2015?
